Alpine Updates - February 17th, 2021

Dear Team Summit Alpine Ability, Age Class and SRD parents; Full-Time Academy Athletes and Interested Parties:

Thank you to all who participated in the recent Team Summit Survey! Across all our programs, 718 parents completed the survey – a phenomenal response rate. A total of 570 or 79.4% of you rated Team Summit a 9 or a 10 resulting in a net promoter score of 74.4! The comments you shared are invaluable to us and provide important feedback.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding of the challenges that we all… coaches, athletes, parents and administration face every day and your patience with us as we do our best to navigate the seemingly daily changes, modifications and questions that arise. Please realize there are many areas that we would like to improve and will continue to work to increase your trust.

In front of us are upcoming events and planning for spring and summer training. Please read on for much important information.

Thank you for allowing Team Summit to be part of your own, or your child’s skiing and ski racing experience!

Volunteer Opportunities
The Alpine Program been awarded more opportunities to host competitions this season as compared to years past.

Racing at home confers a number of benefits to our athletes including racing on home hills, saving lift ticket costs and reducing travel expenses for meals, lodging and transportation. If successful in hosting these races we hope to continue this in future seasons. Our goal is to host at least one competition annually for each of our age groups to be able to benefit from these opportunities.

Our ability to host any of our competitions relies heavily on volunteer support, be it a Colorado Cup, YSL, Sync, or a Summit Foundation Cup.

Team Summit is currently VERY low on certified parent officials who can fulfill roles in Timing and Calculations, Race Administration, as Start and finish referees or Chief of Race. These are all positions required of the event host. PLEASE consider pursuing certification for these type of roles in our Race Organization. This is a wonderful way to both support your child in their racing, as well as, insure that Team Summit is able to host quality competitions.

If you would like to explore certification in the future, please contact mealdo@teamsummit.org to explore interests and procedures.

There are also many needs for “unskilled” volunteers at our events. If you would like to get an up close view of your athlete competing, please volunteer by signing into your CampInTouch Account here:  https://summitcolorado.campintouch.com/v2/login/login.aspx?
The Events Manager typically sends out an email with specifics to each position 2 days prior to the event to help you plan for the day.

Not sure how to register? See our How-To-Volunteer document:https://drive.google.com/open?id=1wTjFZ1cBtYxIttELDQ31kwvV-F9OC5P2&authuser=phil%40teamsummit.org&usp=drive_fs

Should you have any questions regarding volunteering or the competition, please do not hesitate to email events@teamsummit.org or call Phil at 703.678.3187.

Ability Team Competition Billing
Ability program travel is highly variable depending on the competition schedules and qualifications of individual athletes. With the much more limited and predictable racing schedules for our Ski Racing Devo and Age Class Programs, staff travel costs are built into program budgets and fees.

Ability staff travel costs are shared by the participating athletes so that these expenses are more equitably shared by the athletes directly benefitting from the competition support (Including ski-up U14’s participating in Sync Races).

Previously, billing has been calculated with PAYMENT deadlines PRIOR TO TEAM TRAVEL. This year, billing is taking place after the event in order to make shared costs as accurate and low as possible for the participating athletes.

Final accounting and billing have been completed for several recent competitions.

It has just come to my attention that the original message regarding the Aspen and Eldora FISU, Aspen Speed Week, Steamboat FIS Devo and Vail Sync and Sync Devo did not reach all of our participating athletes due to a glitch in our email communications.

These charges were posted to your athlete’s Campminder account on February 2 and billed on February 9 to the cc on file.

Billing for the Winter Park FIS Devo / Vail FIS and the Winter Park U16 Qualifiers have also been completed and will be posted to your account with billing to the cc on file in one week on February 25.

You will see a number of cost saving measures on the worksheets voluntarily made by coaches in order to reduce the athlete costs. This includes lodging together as a staff (following negative COVID tests), staying with family or friends when possible, declining some allowed per diem allocations, taking advantage of official’s lodging and day tripping when possible.

Please review the linked billing sheets below and let me know if you have any questions that I can answer about how the expenses are calculated.
