Alpine Updates - September 7th, 2020

This message is being sent to all 2019-20 and 2020-21 registered Team Summit Alpine Athletes U14 and older and all Alpine parents. Our apologies to those who will receive multiple copies until we begin messaging only 2020-21 registered athletes as programs return to snow in the upcoming months.

Dear Team Summit Colorado Alpine Ability athletes, All Alpine parents, and Alpine Coaching staff:

I hope that everyone has enjoyed the Labor Day weekend!

Tomorrow, Tuesday, September 8, is the start of fall dryland for Full-Time athletes and could see the first significant snowfall of the year! If weather dictates, the conditioning program will be modified. Read the conditioning section for additional details.

TSC Executive Director CB Bechtel sent a program update last Friday to all registered 2019-20 and 2020-21 families. You will find copies of these communications archived in the Blog section on the Team Summit website for your reference: https://teamsummit.org/members/blog.

Earlier this past week, US Ski and Snowboard provided guidance to the ski racing community regarding racing this season. More details and a link to the document are below.

While the environment continues to be fluid and flexibility is the name of the game, there is increasing optimism that the coming season will not just be as good as ever but, in some ways, better than ever!

See you soon!

Conditioning
Details of training including locations, times, activities, focus, and special reminders will be on the Team Summit Calendar page for each group https://teamsummit.org/members/calendars. Conditioning calendars will be updated with any weather-related changes by 11:00AM day of training.

We are still planning on having our first session for Full-Time athletes on Tuesday – 1:45pm at the Frisco Adventure Park, if the weather cooperates. Plan on being outside and come prepared with warm layers, rain gear, hats, and gloves.

However, if the weather is too bad in order to have our first conditioning session at the Frisco Adventure Park, we will do an at-home Zoom workout from 2pm-4pm

Please warm-up properly 15 minutes before the start of the workout 1:45-2:00pm
-5 min bike/run
-5 min foam roll (if available)
-5-10 min mobility walks

The first half (link) of the workout over Zoom will be dedicated to strength and consist of bodyweight exercises. The second half (link) will be dedicated to core and stretching.

USSS Competition Guidance
U.S. Ski & Snowboard issued its COVID-19 Alpine Domestic Competitions Guidance on September 1. Find the complete document here: https://usskiandsnowboard.org/sites/default/files/files-resources/files/2020/U.S.%20Ski%20%26%20Snowboard%20COVID-19%20Alpine%20Domestic%20Competitions%20Guidance.pdf
In order to help minimize the risk and spread of illness, a number of new procedures, rules, and guidelines have been developed for hosting Regions, Divisions, resorts, and clubs.

Chief among these are screening and safety protocols, reduced field sizes, racing multiple times each day whenever possible, minimizing travel, reducing overnight stays, virtual meetings, and electronic distribution of race materials.

Many of these changes brought on by COVID-19 are progressive for ski racing and may stick after their forced implementation when the pandemic has passed. With all of the resources available within easy driving distance, Colorado and Team Summit are strongly positioned to thrive in this new environment.

National, Regional, and Divisional sport committees are urgently tackling the significant task of reviewing and modifying calendars, rules, and qualifications. It will be several weeks before race schedules will be confirmed for the season.

Overwhelmingly, resorts around the state are affirming their commitment to support their local clubs, racing, and kids pursuing their dreams. This leads us to great optimism for an exciting, productive, fun, and complete season!
