COVID-19 Updates - March 13, 2020

COVID-19 Update - March 13, 2020

I am heartbroken in having to send this message.

Things have escalated quickly here in Summit County. As much as we would love to continue with our programs for the remainder of the season we have reached a point where the risk of contributing to the community spread of COVID-19 outweighs the benefit of continuing organized training at Team Summit.

So effective immediately we are suspending all Team Summit activities. At this time we are unable to accurately determine how long this suspension will be in place. We will continue to communicate with local health and government officials to determine our best course of action in the coming weeks.

Camps remain in place as planned. We have confirmation from all of our resort partners for awesome spring camps. Those will be posted early next week. If the aggressive containment measures everyone is taking are effective we should have a great start to prep period for next season.

I wish I was sharing different news. I love this sport (all of the sports we do at Team Summit). I want nothing more than to have our athletes skiing and riding as much as possible. Containing this virus, which has so disrupted our lives and our sport, is the best road forward at this time.

Best wishes to all of our athletes, staff and families for good health during these uncertain times.

COVID-19 Update - March 12, 2020

As you know, the COVID-19/Coronavirus continues to spread and raise public concern. We are closely monitoring local health services recommendations, following CDC protocols, communicating with local sports clubs in our region, and gathering information from our local schools as we navigate the best plan for your athletes and our staff at Team Summit.

We expect that the situation will be steadily changing. As it does we will use email and our webpage, teamsummit.org, to provide updates.

Team Summit Colorado will follow the guidance of local authorities, our partner resorts and the Summit County School District with regard to COVID-19. At the moment Arapahoe Basin, Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, and Keystone Ski Resorts are continuing with normal operations. In addition, all schools in the Summit County School District remain open.

At this time all programs within Team Summit will remain operational. We will be closely following information from the local officials and the response of the school district and our resort partners as we daily evaluate our operations. In addition, we will implement the following practices at all of our training sessions:

  • Coaches and athletes will be avoiding the lodges by meeting at the lift.
  • Athletes will bring their lunch and the teams will eat outside.
  • Of course, athletes will be given access to restroom facilities as needed
  • Please consider packing a way to clean athlete hands in their backpacks. We understand the scarcity of hand sanitizer at the moment so if not available, please consider other sterilization products such as wipes
  • Where possible, coaches will also be equipped with sterilization products

We are asking that anyone, staff or athlete, showing signs of illness avoid attending Team Summit activities.

Events
Due to suggested restrictions on gatherings, we are canceling the following events:

  • Bubblegum Races on Mondays at the Frisco Adventure Park
  • Intro To Team Summit end of year bash on 3/21
  • All other end-of-season parties

We will continue to monitor conditions before making a final decision on our April 30 Awards banquet planned for Denver.

Summer Camps
Registration is currently open for the Freeski, Alpine and Snowboarding camps. It is too early to make a decision on canceling. We encourage you to register and make deposits as usual.
All deposits will be fully refundable if future indicators require us to cancel these camps.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to monitor the situation with the safety of your children, our staff and the community at the forefront of all decisions.

Summit County Public Health and its local partners strongly urge all residents and visitors to take the following actions:

  • Frequently and thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol.
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or your inner elbow shirt sleeve, not your hand. If you use a tissue to cover your cough or sneeze, throw it in the trash immediately afterward and then wash your hands properly.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Stay home if you’re sick, and keep your children home if they are sick.
  • Clean frequently touched surfaces and personal items (including cell phones) in your home and workspace using regular household cleaning products.
  • Practice sensible social distancing: replace handshakes and hugs with elbow bumps and namaste-style greetings; don’t spend extended periods of time in enclosed spaces with large groups; keep a distance of at least six feet between yourself and people who may be ill

Thank you for your patience and support as we monitor and react to this public health situation.
