The Founder of Summit County's First Race Team - Gene Gillis

While no single person is responsible for making what Summit County is today, it would not be what it is without Gene Gillis.

Gene was an olympian, resort builder, and founder of two of Summit County's race teams that eventually merged to become Team Summit Colorado.  Ina, Gene's wife, and Gene built a strong legacy over the 30+ years they lived in the county.   Alison (Grabau) Pomerantz published an amazing article in the Summit Daily summarizing the contributions the Gillis family provided to our County:  https://www.summitdaily.com/news/summit-county-pioneers-gene-and-ina-gillis/ 

Each year, Team Summit Colorado recognizes one athlete from each discipline for athletic performance.  The award is rightfully titled the Gene Gillis Award for Outstanding Athletics.
