Intro to Race

Intro to Race
7-15 yrs old (Transition / Race Fundamental Skills)
YSL (Youth Ski League) Series

Once the athlete has been through the Intro to Team Summit Program and has decided Alpine Racing is the path for them, the next step is Intro to Race.  This program is built with guidance from USSA Alpine Training System and PSIA Models to fit the needs of the athlete’s biological age, training age and development stage.  This is the next step in continuing our Long Term Development Plan for our athletes.  The main difference between Intro to Team Summit and Intro to race is the athletes are more focused on developing fundamental skills as they relate to alpine ski racing.  The athletes will also be learning the rules of Alpine competition through competing in USSA-RM’s Youth Ski League Race Series.  A USSA membership is required and a Vail Epic and Copper Season pass is expected.

This program is designed to enable athletes to become successful in the Youth Ski League Series. The program includes Saturdays, three out of four Sundays per month and three Holiday Camp days. Athletes will take Presidents weekend off.  The athletes will ski at their home mountains on Sat and then on Sun, all groups will gather at one of the 3 mountains and train together.  (Both passes are needed).   There are 5 youth ski league races in 2015 and this programs includes the cost of coaching at each of the events. Entry for the YSL races is not included in the program Fees.

The athlete’s skills are strengthened through a wide variety of activities including:

Miles of supervised free skiing
Gateless training and skill building drills
Short drill courses
Slalom, Giant slalom, and Kombi courses
USSA’s Skills Quest program

Groups are divided thoughtfully by age and ability. With a low athlete to coach ratio, each athlete receives ample coaching, personal attention, and supervision.
