JD has always been a good snowboarder but is now learning to be a good person, role model, competitor, and snowboarder. JD's attitude and learning capacity have changed 180 degrees in the last 6 weeks. He now works with the younger kids and tries new things each day.

Telluride was a completely successful start to our competition season. A total of 5 podiums, and 6 top 5s, and 17 out of 18 athletes landing their runs. I truly could not ask for a more consistent start to our comp season. Morgan Fields was 2nd in 15-18 female, Evan Barth was 4th 15-18 female, Hannah Webb was 1st 12-14 female, Maddie Haser was 2nd 12-14 female, Thomas Drummond was 2nd 12-14 Male, Reid Litwiller was 3rd 15-18 ski male. The Team Summit MTB program aims to provide safe, fun, and enjoyable experiences to help develop our athletes into lifelong cyclists. This year we will offer day trips, camps, skills clinics, downhill park days, and summer programming to provide a variety of benefits to athletes such as exploring new and different trails in Summit County, meeting new friends, staying in shape for skiing and snowboarding, competing in a variety of race series, and progressing on a bike over the course of a 3 season period. A week with not much racing at home. The older athletes are getting ready for next weekend's RMISA and RMN races in Steamboat. At the junior world championships, we had Nina Schamberger racing and did a great start to the championships. That was a pretty darn productive couple of days at Copper, but with that being said; we're going to return to Abasin. The traffic and frustration that comes with it, is simply too much and it severely cuts into our training time. Ultimately, more time on snow is always a good thing – and all of the athletes that attended this weekend got to put eyes on the venue at Copper. Team Summit Nordic had a great weekend of racing in Soldier Hollow, Utah. This is called a "superqualifier" event – which hosts the entire western US racing at the 2002 Olympic venue. We had 23 athletes competing at Super Qualifier, which also counts as a Junior Nationals qualifier for U16 and older. We're nearing the end of January somehow. This is our last week of "normalcy" before things get pretty chaotic, with competition season right around the corner. We've been hard at work during training, gearing up for the road ahead and putting the finishing touches on most of what we'll be able to bring to the competition season. Below are some points I would love to share and make known, to aid in some understanding, hopefully. The Rocky Mountain Division has over 700 athletes; this is about 2.5X larger than the subsequent most significant division in the US and Canada. Events (and the addition of days) are at the sole discretion of the event hosts (i.e., the mountains), and NOT IFSA or RMFS. The IFSA earns only $6 from each event registration. Team Summit's Little Vikings program has been in full swing since last week. It is a "learn how to ski" program for our youngest skiers. With support from the towns of Breckenridge and Frisco, we can provide the best nordic skiing experience for our younger generation. Athlete of the Month – December – Stanley Buzek – Alpine FIS “Stasz” is always the first to lend a hand.
