American teens bring home nine Opa Cup medals
While top-level global competition is reaching the height of its season, America’s next generation has quietly been notching unprecedented international results at the OPA Cup.
Six U16 racers from the Rocky Central Region qualified for the prestigious OPA Cup (formerly the Seven Nations Cup) in Germany from Jan. 28 – Feb. 6. Competing against a field of about 120 U16 athletes from key alpine racing countries, U.S. racers walked away with multiple podiums.
“These results for the U.S. are not common. It’s definitely the...
Big Mountain Skiing Update – 2/13-2/19
Some early snowfall is coming down from these next couple of storms that are incoming. Skiing around the county should be quite good this week and into the weekend.
With the conclusion of the Copper events, we'll be shifting back to Abasin on a more permanent basis, minus the odd trainings at Breck as we approach the event over there. Breck trainings will be optional, and will coincide with trainings at Abasin.
We had an amazing showing at the Copper National. Thomas, Maddie, and Reid all qualified 1st in their respective divisions. All 15-18 boys qualified,...
Intro to Team Summit Feb Update – Up-Coming Summit Cups
I want to update you on our calendar for the second half of our season. After our practice this weekend, we have Presidents' weekend off. Please try to get out and ski with your athlete as often as possible so they can practice the skills they have learned.
We have two upcoming Summit Cups. Unfortunately, there is a limited number of spots for each of these competitions.
Sunday, March 5: Breckenridge Skills Cross. This is a timed event on a Skier Cross course, one skier at a time.
**Registration opens on Monday, Feb 20th. Space is...

Big Mountain Skiing Update – 2/6-2/12
Telluride was a completely successful start to our competition season. A total of 5 podiums, and 6 top 5s, and 17 out of 18 athletes landing their runs. I truly could not ask for a more consistent start to our comp season. Morgan Fields was 2nd in 15-18 female, Evan Barth was 4th 15-18 female, Hannah Webb was 1st 12-14 female, Maddie Haser was 2nd 12-14 female, Thomas Drummond was 2nd 12-14 Male, Reid Litwiller was 3rd 15-18 ski male. Of course these were the highlights, and I cannot stress enough how happy I am with everybody's performance.
I hope this weekend went...
Team Summit Colorado Spring and Summer youth MTB programs are now open for registration!
The Team Summit MTB program aims to provide safe, fun, and enjoyable experiences to help develop our athletes into lifelong cyclists.
This year we will offer day trips, camps, skills clinics, downhill park days, and summer programming to provide a variety of benefits to athletes such as exploring new and different trails in Summit County, meeting new friends, staying in shape for skiing and snowboarding, competing in a variety of race series, and progressing on a bike over the course of a 3 season period.
Please take a look back at our team's highlight film from 2022
Nordic Update | 2/1/2023
A week with not much racing at home. The older athletes are getting ready for next weekend's RMISA and RMN races in Steamboat.
At the junior world championships, we had Nina Schamberger racing and did a great start to the championships.
Vail Daily ran a pretty big article about the races:
https://www.vaildaily.com/news/cloud-city-sensations-leadville-locals-nina-schamberger-and-rose-horning-are-set-to-compete-at-the-fis-nordic-junior-world-ski-championships/
In her first race of the championships, Nina skied to 19th place which was second American. This...
Big Mountain Skiing Update – 1/30-2/5
That was a pretty darn productive couple of days at Copper, but with that being said; we're going to return to Abasin. The traffic and frustration that comes with it, is simply too much and it severely cuts into our training time. Ultimately, more time on snow is always a good thing – and all of the athletes that attended this weekend got to put eyes on the venue at Copper. Abasin simply allows us to get more runs, and keep a cooler ahead.
I'm also going to have to make a last-minute change to our schedule this week, and eliminate Academy/Early Release...
Team Summit results from Superqualifier at Soldier Hollow Jan 20/21
Team Summit Nordic had a great weekend of racing in Soldier Hollow, Utah. This is called a "superqualifier" event – which hosts the entire western US racing at the 2002 Olympic venue. We had 23 athletes competing at Super Qualifier, which also counts as a Junior Nationals qualifier for U16 and older. Elsie Robinson won the U14 classic race, and we had Lucia Taylor, Maeve Niemkiewicz, and Fia Niemkiewicz also finished on the podium. Below are the results from the skate sprint and classic mass start races.

Big Mountain Skiing Update – 1/23-1/29 & Comp Season
We're nearing the end of January somehow. This is our last week of "normalcy" before things get pretty chaotic, with competition season right around the corner. We've been hard at work during training, gearing up for the road ahead and putting the finishing touches on most of what we'll be able to bring to the competition season.
It looks like we'll have pretty consistent light snowfall for most of the week, hopefully keeping things soft. The new snow will bring some additional crowds up the hill, so be prepared.
Schedule
We'll be moving...
Big Mountain Skiing Update – Comp Info
Below are some points I would love to share and make known, to aid in some understanding, hopefully.
The Rocky Mountain Division has over 700 athletes; this is about 2.5X larger than the subsequent most significant division in the US and Canada.
Events (and the addition of days) are at the sole discretion of the event hosts (i.e., the mountains), and NOT IFSA or RMFS.
The IFSA earns only $6 from each event registration. The registration platform takes roughly a 9% tax. The rest of the registration fees go to hosts and host resorts.
The Rocky Mountain...
