The Team Summit MTB program aims to provide safe, fun, and enjoyable experiences to help develop our athletes into lifelong cyclists.
Our Mission
The goal of the spring indoor cycling and strength program is to maximize athletic performance and reduce injuries encountered during participation in all sports. This is accomplished through improvements in mobility, flexibility, postural enhancements, absolute strength, and power production.
NEW THIS YEAR: We will have indoor trainer sessions and Zwift set up for athletes to ride with and against one another!

Who: Devo and Devo Race team riders who want to get faster and improve their cycling shape for the upcoming Summer season

Requirements:
At least a 24” bike with gears and hand brakes
Capable of riding on singletrack trails for periods of up to 2-3 hours (this includes breaks).
Intermediate biking skills such as speed control, riding through rocky terrain, proficient braking, adequate shifting technique, as well as being able to climb uphill portions of singletrack trails are required.
Water and snacks for before and after training (Bananas, homemade energy bars, granola bars, fruit leathers, fig bars, dried fruit, etc..)
Appropriate layers for riding in cold weather (base layers, mid-layers, rain jackets, gloves, pants, etc…)
The goal of this trip is to get riders out for a weekend of riding in spring to get our legs and lungs ready for summer. For those riders who hope to improve their cycling shape for the summer season, this is a great start. It’s also a great opportunity to bond with fellow peers, eat good food, and talk about the summer season we want to have together. Expect to ride for 3 days straight during this trip, each day totaling around 10 - 15 miles.

Location: We have group camping reserved at 18 Rd. North Fruita Desert. RVs, pull-behinds, and vans are all welcome!
Cost: $200 for entire trip (Camping, food, shuttling, and coach support included)
NOTE: This is a family-friendly trip and all parents are welcome to camp and join us for the festivities: If your child is in Middle School and you’d like them to join me and other team members for the trip, but you can’t make it, talk to Coach Tyler and we’ll work out a transportation plan in the Team Summit Van and camping in Fruita.

This is our final team camp and trip for the spring season. The goal of this trip is to get riders out for a weekend of riding in Durango, Cortez, and Dolores. For those riders who hope to improve their cycling shape for the summer season, this is a great start. We’ll spend Saturday, Sunday, and Monday riding local trails. On Sunday, riders who sign up for the Iron Horse Classic race will get coaching support before their event. We’ll also be participating in and spectating the weekend events during the Iron Horse Classic, a classic Durango ride/race using trails within the Horse Gulch system.

Location: Group campsite G02, JUNCTION CREEK reserved. We will be camping in Durango at Junction Creek Campground. We have a group site booked that allows max 18’ vehicles. Tents, cars, trucks, and vans are preferred. It’s a tight space and anything larger than that will have a hard time getting in and out. If you plan to bring a large vehicle or camping unit for the weekend, you’ll need to book a single site.
Elementary (3rd - 5th grades)
New to town or just getting into mountain biking? This is your group! The Intro to Team Summit MTB Fundamental Program is a 9-week program focused on learning and developing fundamental MTB skills, having fun, meeting new friends, learning basic bike-body awareness, and building confidence riding singletrack trails.
Age / Grade Level:
This program is for Fall 3rd - 6th graders. We will be splitting into groups based on grade, ability, and fitness level. Moving riders up to an older group is at the COACHES DISCRETION ONLY as there are many considerations, beyond skill and fitness, that play into this scenario. If you have multiple children participating in our programs, the older rider can always ride down.

Equipment:
The following is required at each practice:
Bike: All athletes must be on a good-fitting bike with a minimum of 20” wheels. Pay attention to grips, bar-ends, chains, tires, and suspension. No peddle brakes or kickstands allowed.
Helmet! A properly fitting helmet that’s in good condition with no cracks, dents, or other damage. We recommend helmets be replaced at least every 2 years.
Gear: Required - Raincoat, backpack or water bottle/camelbak, spare tube for their tire size, two tire levers, and a mini pump (make sure pump fits their tube valves - check for presta or schrader, close-toed shoes.
Optional, but recommended: Gloves, glasses, knee pads and sunscreen
Snacks: Healthy snacks such as homemade granola bars, pretzels, peanut butter and jelly sandwich, fruit leathers, honey stinger waffles and gels, dried bananas or apples, trail mix, fruit pouches, rice cakes.
Registration - 2024 MTB programs
The JR. Devo Program is designed for young riders who have shown a passion and demonstrated the skills necessary to ride adventurous trails in Summit County. Riders in this group must be capable of comfortably riding at least a 24” bike with gears and hand brakes on singletrack trails for periods of up to 2-3 hours (this includes breaks). Intermediate biking skills such as speed control, riding through rocky terrain, proficient braking, adequate shifting technique, as well as being able to climb uphill portions of singletrack trails are required.
Athletes should be able to ride local trails such as; Blair Witch, Hay Trail, ZL, Hippo Trail, Barney Ford and Flow, Aspen Alley, and Upper/Middle Flume.
Grades: Fall 2024 3rd - 5th grades
Program Dates: June 11th - August 8th
Practice Times: Tuesdays and Thursdays 5:00pm - 7:00pm
Groups:
In 2024, we will be splitting our Jr. Devo riders into three groups based on skill ability, fitness level and personal goals Moving riders up to an older/more advanced group is at the COACHES’ DISCRETION ONLY as there are many considerations, beyond skill and fitness, that play into this rare scenario. If you have multiple children participating in our programs, the older rider can always ride down.
Group Splits:
Beginner/Fundamentals - For new, beginner riders who want to build basic mountain bike fundamental skills and ride with friends.
Speed/Distance Advanced (For returning 4th - 5th graders)
This group is great for kids interested in cross-country and enduro-style riding (racing not required)
Stunts/Skills/Jumps (Intermediate/Advanced style enduro, and dirt jumping)
This group is great for kids wanting to learn to enduro-style riding, hit jumps, and drops. (For returning 4th - 5th graders)
Cost: $450
*Parent Notice*: Some of these groups are for advanced riders. Coaches of the advanced groups will assess each rider on the first day of practice to make sure riders are adequately prepared. In the event riders are not yet ready to participate in an advanced group, we will move that rider to a more suitable program on the same day and time. We do this for the safety and success of ALL Junior Devo riders!

Middle School (Fall 6th - 8th grades)
The Devo program is for middle schoolers interested in continuing to build skills and progress on the bike. The overall goals of the team are to build fundamental and intermediate bike handling skills and instill a sense of community among riders. Riders of all ability levels are encouraged.
This group will consist of sixth through eighth-grade middle school girl and boy riders who are motivated to continue with skill building and are interested in taking their adventure riding to the next level.
Riders in this group must be on a minimum of a 26” bike and aspire to tackle longer, more physically demanding rides including V3, Backdoor/Sidedoor, Nightmare on Baldy, B-Line, Colorado Trail - West Ridge, Slalom, Vomit Hill, Hard Luck, and Miner’s Creek.
While racing is not mandatory, riders in this group may be interested in participating in local and regional races through the Intro to Devo Race Program.
The U14 group will aim to split into two different groups at rides. Both groups are trail riding focused. Riders can move between groups depending on the week, personal goals, other summer activities, race schedule, etc.
Devo Adventure Group
Recreational Rides (Mild): This group will be a more leisurely ride where riders can work on progressing their current skill set and building new skills and confidence. Expect to ride 6-8 miles per practice, 500ft-750ft vertical gain. This group is great for kids who know how to ride their bikes, but aren’t interested in advanced-style rides.
Devo Speed/Distance Group
Progressive Rides (Spicy): This group will be looking to ride trails at faster speeds, and take on more technical challenges. Expect to ride 10-12+ miles per practice and 1000+ ft vertical gain with 2-3 short stops during the ride. Riders should have ridden at least one season of regular U14 first, or have a coach recommendation to join this group.
Grades: Fall 2024 6th - 8th grades
Program Dates: June 11th - August 8th
Practices Schedule: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5pm - 7pm
Cost: $450
Add on big adventure rides across Summit County with this add-on. Big rides focus on longer, backcountry rides and how to be sufficient and riding safely. Riders must be capable of a 4-5 hour outing and riding 15-20 miles in length. Note: Must be pre-approved to join these rides! Contact tyler@teamsummit.org with questions:

Our focus of the Intro to Race Program is on fundamental skill and fitness development and an introduction to racing. This program is for competitively interested, driven, experienced riders seeking group training and competition opportunities. This program focuses on both cross-country and gravity/enduro mountain bike skills to develop well-rounded riders.
Grades: Fall 2024 7th - 8th grades
Program Dates: June 10th - August 5th

Frisco is excited to announce a brand new mountain bike (MTB) race hosted on the Frisco Peninsula Recreation Area trails on Saturday, June 8, 2024. Cue the Frisco Funduro, an MTB race targeting kids ages 8-14 years old encompassing a dual slalom race and a three-stage enduro featuring some of the gnarliest downhill trails that Summit County has to offer (yes, we’re talking Aftermath and Skypilot).

Junior Bike Week is the only multi-day festival in the world that exclusively celebrates KIDS ON BIKES! We have events happening throughout the week for kids of all ages and abilities with everything from trail work and skills clinics to competitive racing.
