Started skiing the steeps of Michigan at the age of 8 with my family. At 13 I entered my first race – Detroit News Ski Race at Brighton Michigan. Not sure how I did, but was hooked on racing from there. No judges, just who can get to the bottom the fastest. Began skiing Central USSA as a 15 year old and I remember using a motorcycle helmet for GS. Three years later I managed to make the Central Division team along with racing in several Noram events. Made the All State High School Team my senior year after finishing third overall at the State Meet. After HS, began racing pro on the Puegot and I love New York Racing Series while finishing school and also teaching and coaching ski racing. Several years later I began competing in Triathlons and then focused on my Corporate Carrier, so for about a 20 year period I averaged about 2 ski days per year.
Came to Colorado in 2002 and was hired to teach skiing at Copper as an Instructor. Named Instructor of the Year in 2005 during which time I taught skiing, snowboarding and began coaching with Team Summit Colorado. Became the Development Head Coach in 2006 and have been with the team ever since. Still like to run gates, go fast, ski powder and catch some air! Once in awhile you might even catch me on a snowboard, though I have been taught that step-ins are so not cool! Oh well, shaped skis are pretty awesome and so are early rise powder skis. See you in the lift line or on the chair lift – cause I seldom stop to talk when skiing.
What is an interesting fact about you that no one else knows?
If I told you, everybody would know, then I would have to come up with something else…. I received a US Patent for my design of a Spin Dryer used in the manufacturing of microprocessor chips. It spun silicon wafers at nearly 10,000 RPM’s without breaking them. Look it up!
What is your favorite thing about Team Summit Colorado?
My favorite thing about Team Summit Colorado is the energy of the athletes. The desire of our athletes to always perform at their best and the overall fun and excitement you can see in their faces after another day spent with this great team.
