Alpine Ability and Age Class Update – August 13, 2023

Dear Team Summit Alpine Ability and Age Class Teams and All Alpine Age Class and Ability Coaches:

Successful summer training camps were recently completed at Mt. Hood for our Age Class Team and Stelvio, Italy for our Ability Team. The final day of the Summer Conditioning weight lifting program is tomorrow, August 14 and classes for the new year start soon thereafter for everyone.

There will be a two week break for all Team Summit activities until the start of the pre-season conditioning program. The Ability Team will begin on Monday August 28 and will run Monday through Friday until we begin on snow October 20. The Age Class Team begins their pre-season conditioning on Tuesday August 29 and is meeting on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday each week. Please consult your team’s calendar in Playmetrics for times and other details.

Ability Team goal sheets were sent out to yearlong Full and Part Time athletes last week. The deadline for returning these is November 1st. Anyone who would like to review their goals with their coaches may set up an appointment after their form has been completed and submitted.

The racing calendars are in the process of being confirmed with hosting resorts and clubs and will be published by RMD here, once finalized: https://usskiandsnowboard.org/sport-programs/regions-divisions/rocky-central-alpine-region/rocky-alpine-division-calendar

Team Summit is awaiting pass pricing information from our partner resorts for the specially priced

A-Basin, Copper Mountain and restricted Epic Passes. For those of you considering Ikon https://www.ikonpass.com/en/shop-passes/ikon-pass or the Full Epic Pass https://www.epicpass.com you may want to begin shopping now and are encouraged to keep an eye on deadline dates where the lowest prices may expire.

Both the Ikon and Epic Pass provide great value for athletes who are traveling to races at their participating resorts and training on our local mountains.

This is a good time to confirm that you have renewed your USSS membership (and purchased you FIS license for U18 and older athletes). There are many little-known membership benefits that you will find on the membership section of the USSS website https://usskiandsnowboard.org/membership/member-benefits. Among them is “Expert Voice”. This is a membership benefit that gives access to discounts of 30-70% on hundreds of outdoor brands for gear, clothing and more that is available for free to members. Please take time to understand your membership and all it offers you in addition to being required for competition.

Van shuttle service for local students to training is slated to begin with the first day of conditioning. Please sign up through Playmetrics for the number of days you plan to attend THROUGHOUT THE WINTER. There are offerings for 1 up to 4 days per week for Alpine Age Class and Alpine Ability shuttles.

The Alpine Ability shuttle is a parent volunteer driven and staffed program. Please read below for additional information.

Enjoy the remaining days of summer and see you soon!

Alpine Ability Volunteer Van Service

If there is sufficient interest and volunteer parents there will be a club administered and parent driven van shuttle service from the schools to Ability training.

A parent volunteer coordinator is needed to organize the scheduling of athletes, staffing by parent volunteers and coordinating upkeep of the van. Team Summit will manage collection of fees, expenses and credit of volunteer time.

The coordinator role will receive a full credit towards one child’s work deposit and cost of riding in the van. Any volunteers driving vans on a regular weekly schedule will receive a credit in the amount equal to their driving commitment (e.g. Athlete is signed up for 4 day shuttle program and parent volunteer drives 1 day per week: Athlete pays for the three day per week shuttle program).

Parent volunteers will also receive work deposit credit of 4 hours per day of shuttle driving.

Last year’s Program Coordinator, Karen McCalla is continuing in this role to help her replacement get started in the next several weeks. Anyone willing to either help with driving or to step into the coordinator role, please contact Karen directly kqueen31@gmail.com.

If you are interested in participating in the program, please sign-up for the number of days you are interested in participating in the service through your Playmetrics account.

With conditioning and the possible shuttle service beginning in two weeks, it is time sensitive to confirm this program.
