Alpine Ability Update – November 28, 2022 – Race Season

Dear Team Summit Alpine Ability Community (All Alpine Ability Parents; All U16 and Older athletes; All Alpine Ability Coaches):

The race season is on!

North America’s fastest racers, not already established on World Cup, begin racing this week at Copper Mountain in the Nor-Am Series! Women’s GS and SL races begin on Wednesday followed by Men’s and Women’s DH and SG races from December 5-10. The Colorado stop of the Nor-Am series finishes with men’s GS and SL in Beaver Creek from December 12-15. Congratulations and good luck to the Team Summit athletes qualified for the USA quota in these Nor-Ams!

Soon thereafter the Colorado Ski Cup Series begins with the FIS NJR SL’s for U18's and U2's in Aspen on December 17, 18. The Sync Series begins on December 18 in Loveland with the Sync Open.

You will always find the most current RMD Race Calendar on the RMD page of the US Ski and Snowboard website: https://usskiandsnowboard.org/sport-programs/regions-divisions/rocky-central-alpine-region/rocky-alpine-division-calendar (This is where the coaches find the race information as well).

The race calendar is also input in Demosphere. If the calendar changes, there may be a lag between when changes are published at the above page and when the edits are made in Demosphere. PLEASE REVIEW THE RACE AND TRAINING SCHEDULES IN PLAYMETRICS AND ENTER YOUR PLANS VIA THE ATTENDANCE FUNCTION TO HELP THE COACHES WITH OUR PLANNING.

Read on below for more detailed information. RACERS – It is up to you to learn the system, which races you are qualified for and take care of your indication of attendance, entries, monitor deadlines and so forth.

Thank you,

Aldo

RACE ANNOUNCEMENTS

Race announcements are provided by the race host with important information regarding entries, schedules, waivers, lift ticket procedures and so forth. PLEASE READ THESE ONCE PUBLISHED AND ACT ON THE REQUIREMENTS. YOUR COACHES WILL NOT TRACK YOU DOWN TO REMIND YOU.

Race announcements are published at the RMD page linked above. Currently, race announcements have not been published by RMD for the upcoming FIS or Sync races.

RACE ENTRY PROCEDURE

Race Entries will be made through your account at MYUSSA: https://my.usskiandsnowboard.org/myussa. It is your responsibility to make your entries ahead of published deadlines and complete necessary waivers and other procedures.

Registration is not yet open for events next month except Nor-Ams. Please check back periodically to register.

RACE TRAVEL

Most RMD races can be day tripped from Summit County and will not have organized team travel. Athletes and their families will be responsible for their own travel arrangements to all RMD races. Coaches expenses are divided among the attending athletes with a detailed accounting following each competition. Team travel will be organized for the U18 SL Qualifiers at Mt. Lacrosse and RMD Teams travelling to Nor-Ams, National Championships, U18 Nationals, U16 Nationals and any international USSS competition trips.

SYNC SERIES SPECIFICS

This season, all Sync Series including the qualifiers for the R/C Regional U16 Championships will be randomly seeded for the first run with the second run order completely flipped. Standings will be based on two run combined time and races will be scored to the USSS points list. Third and Fourth run starts in a multi race series will be split and flipped to provide all racers with the most equitable start opportunities possible in a series.
