Alpine Ability Updates – January 8, 2020

Alpine Ability Updates – January 8th, 2020

Dear U16 and FIS Athletes and Parents:
The Ability Program offers optional "Team Travel" to all competitions for U16 and older members. Athletes may always choose to travel and stay with family or friends if it is more efficient or cost-effective. In all cases, the travel expenses for coaches attending an event, including transportation, lodging, food and misc., will be divided equally among the attending athletes. Travel billing for Team Travel and shared coaches' expenses will be budgeted and charged prior to the departure for the event.

Below is information about upcoming events and the links to the travel planning worksheets for new events. Please respond where requested and utilize the links on the form to make your entries and execute required waivers.

In This Update:
– Wilder Dwight Aspen FIS and U16 Speed Week January 14-20
– Program Director “Coffee Meetings”
– Spring and Summer on-snow Training Camps
– Alpine Volunteer Opportunities

Wilder Dwight Aspen FIS and U16 Speed Week January 14-20
In order to allow our front range families or others who would like more time to prepare we have modified our van departure times. The first van will depart on Tuesday, January 14 from The Peak School at 3PM and the second van will depart at 5PM.

Please indicate your departure preference ASAP on the TSC Travel Planning Worksheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1JfMRFZHmxj4KwiXn2N6QM4xVKK_5j13k5WmnYuwNXWE/edit?usp=sharing

Program Director “Coffee Meetings”
I invite all parents to a “Coffee Meeting” to review the season so far, discuss upcoming events, camps and other activities or just to become better acquainted, share ideas or suggestions.  Best times for me are before 11 on M, TH, F or after 4 on SA, SU.

Please reach out to me by email aldo@teamsummit.org with several days and times that are convenient for you.

Spring and Summer on-snow Training Camps
The dates have been set for 2020 ski training camps!

Spring: April 25 to May 17 – Keystone or other Summit County Location
Due to the construction replacing Peru lift slated to take place this summer, the annual Area 51 training camp will be moved to another location at Keystone or elsewhere in Summit County. Utilizing local snow for up to 18 days of preparation period on-snow training is the most efficient and economical training possible. The foundation for improvement and the following “away” camps will be laid during this time.

Summer: June 6-20 – Mammoth Mountain
Leveraging IKON Passes (either 2019-20 or 2020-21), home-style meals and offering included van transportation keeps summer camp costs as low as possible. Mammoth provides excellent terrain and conditions hosting various National Team and club groups throughout June.

Late Summer: August 3-18 – Stelvio, Italy
Following the successful 2019 camp, we will return to Stelvio for a two week training block at the end of summer. Optimal training slopes and great organization and our wonderful hosts at the Hotel Perego just steps from the lifts make for a productive and memorable experience. This camp should not SUBSTITUTE for one of the earlier camps but should be an ADDITION to the progression throughout the preparation period building with each experience.

Alpine Volunteer Opportunities
From Volunteer Co-ordinator Phil K:
To all parents currently holding a US Ski and Snowboard Official or Ref certification,
We currently have two Youth Ski League races in need of certified Refs on 1/26/2020 and 2/9/2020.  If you are interested in helping out please visit TSC’s Volunteer Page here: https://summitcolorado.campintouch.com/v2/login/login.aspx?  Or email phil@teamsummit.org.
These hours count as VSF hours.

If you are not a certified ref, but would like to volunteer, you still can!  We have several positions still available that can be filled by any volunteer.  We will provide all the necessary training to ensure a positive experience for all.
If you would like to volunteer for any of our positions please visit the volunteer page on our website: https://summitcolorado.campintouch.com/v2/login/login.aspx?  Or email phil@teamsummit.org.
