Alpine Updates – March 27, 2020

Dear Team Summit Colorado Alpine Ability athletes, All Alpine parents, and Alpine Coaching staff:
None of us could have imagined the profound impact on our daily lives that the global battle with the Corona Virus has created. Actions taken over the past several weeks by health authorities, schools, our sport governing body and our own organization that may have seemed alarmist at the time have proved to be prudent in the two weeks since.

We don't know when restrictions will ease, programming can resume and some normalcy will return. At the same time, we continue both our short-range and long-range planning to be sure that we are ready once it is deemed safe to start up again.

Continue reading for information on upcoming events and plans and some ideas of how to be constructive with your time while staying at home.

Stay well and see you soon!

Please feel free to distribute this call-in information to anyone who is not a current TSC member and may have an interest in learning more about our program.

Spring and Summer on-snow Training Camps
Needless to say, all of our on-snow camps are in flux. In order for us to gauge potential participation, we ask that you register for the camps you are interested in so we are sure to have the appropriate resources cued up when we get the green light to move forward.

Registration will not require a deposit. If we are able to move forward, athletes will have the opportunity to withdraw without penalty in light of the uncertain health and financial environment.

Camp information and links to registration can be found here:
https://teamsummit.org//join-team-summit/programs/camp

All camps are now in Campminder and open for registration. To access the Arapahoe Basin and Mammoth camps, please select the 2019 season from the dropdown. For Stelvio please select 2020 season from the dropdown.

Camp by camp updates follow:
Spring: April 24 to May 18 – Arapahoe Basin
Today, we are 4 weeks from the planned first day on the snow. As we don’t have any out of town travel, lodging or other logistical arrangements to consider, we can wait until the latest possible time to follow through or change plans. Our original plan was to ski early morning, while the snow is best, returning to school for classes on Friday and Monday and continuing with technical free skiing until lunch on weekends.

Days for training, times for sessions and start and end days may be modified depending on circumstances.

Summer: June 6-20 – Mammoth Mountain
Mammoth Mountain intends to re-open and host camps if the situation allows. Our rooms and training space are reserved without any financial risk to TSC or members. As van transportation from Colorado is part of the camp cost, travel arrangements are not at risk. For those planning to fly, it is highly likely that there will be capacity for last-minute air travel reservations.

Alternate sites are being explored should either snow conditions in Mammoth deteriorate or if we need to move dates later on the calendar. We can be nimble to adapt to the opportunities that are presented and will continue to plan on a domestic summer camp as the situation evolves.

Late Summer: August 3-18 – Stelvio, Italy
Northern Italy has been heavily impacted over the last several months. For the moment, our plans remain in place with reservations for lodging and training space being held without risk. Alternate sites in Europe exist, as well as, domestic venues.

A fully refundable coach’s ticket has been booked for any who wish to take advantage of very affordable airfares with flexible re-booking rules. The itinerary is on the information pdf available on the TSC Camps page linked above.
