Bar Patterns Part 5: Romanian Deadlift

Bar Patterns: Romanian Deadlift Part 5 in the series Grasp the bar with a clean grip. This is determined by having your fingers just outside of your shoulders while the bar is resting on the front of your shoulders like you are setting up for a front squat (this is also called the “rack position”). Begin with the bar hanging in front of your hips and standing with your feet hip-width apart. This next piece might sound like an optional step, but it is paramount when it comes to performing the Olympic Lifts properly as we progress into explosive lifting. Hold the bar with a ”hook...

Snowboard Updates – February 18th, 2020

Snowboard Updates – February 18th, 2020 It has been a crazy competition season.  We have more kids traveling to more places for contests, more kids doing well at contests, and unfortunately, more contests getting canceled than ever before.  The effort that our families, athletes, parents, and sometimes grandparents put into making a successful snowboard season is remarkable.  The Team and the coaches can not thank our membership enough for all of the support.  The craziness continues for a few more weeks.  The Big mountain Crew will head to Taos this...

Ken Jones Family Fund

Supporting the Whole Community  Team Summit Colorado's vision of whole athlete | whole team | whole community is what we live by. On December 6th, 2019 Ken Jones of Summit Fire & EMS passed away fighting a fire at Copper Mountain. As a community partner, the Firemen were scheduled to run our valet parking for Ski Ball the next day to help them raise money for their department but had to cancel after the accident. At Ski Ball, we held a 50/50 raffle where we raised $1,500 and the winner of the raffle was Tony and Kelly Pestello who own ifurnish. They donated the $750 back to...

Bar Patterns Part 4 – Overhead Squat

Bar Patterns Part 4 – Overhead Squat Grasp the bar with a snatch grip. To find your snatch grip hold the bar at waist level with locked-out elbows. Slowly adjust your grip in or out, while still maintaining straight arms, until the bar hangs at the height of your crease (The crease is the point where your upper leg joins together with your torso. The line that is formed here in your hips is the crease). Be sure you have an even grip on the bar, you do not want the bar either off to the left nor the right. With this grip, press the bar overhead and balance it over your ears. It is very...

Alpine Ability Updates – February 4th, 2020

Alpine Ability Updates – February 4th, 2020 Dear U16 and FIS Athletes and Parents: Please note that this weekend is expected to be very hectic with both weather and Dew Tour disruptions. Allow plenty of time to get to Copper for training.   Also note that if you use the small 15 min parking lot that is in Center Village adjacent to the parking garage for drop off – please do not use the spaces past the rope and sign that indicates the lot is for residents and guests of the nearby condos only. We’ve been informed that they will be booting and enforcing their $1,500 parking...

Snowboard Updates – January 31, 2020

Snowboard Updates – January 31, 2020 Hey Team, Contest season is about to get rolling.  There will be some ups and downs over the next 5-6 weeks.  It is difficult on a team like this because when one kid has a good day it is usually at the expense of a teammate or friend.  In the low times it is easy to blame someone else.  It is important to remember that everyone, coaches, officials, judges, and mountain personal, are out there to help the kids be better snowboarders and better people.  When we are going contest to contest week in and week out we tend to get...

Athlete of the Month: January

Athlete of the Month for January: Jadyn Jadyn has always been a key personality in the Team Summit Snowboard Program.  We have seen Jadyn go from a tiny little 8 year old encouraging her friends to a hard charging and aggressive 13 year old on the Boarderx course.  This year Jadyn is starting to shine as she moves from being a little kid into a leader in the Boarderx Program.  We see her help the younger athletes and we see her execute all the drills and courses with maximum effort every day.  2 Weeks ago one of the kids lost his board down a closed run at Keystone. ...
