Team Summit is proud to recognize James Dayton as this year’s recipient of the Don Sather Award for Excellence in Snowboarding. James represented the Team Summit Snowboard program with strong competitive results and steady commitment throughout the season. His work ethic, competitive spirit, and drive were evident in both training and competition, reflecting the focus and progression that define Team Summit Snowboarding. The Don Sather Award recognizes one snowboard athlete whose dedication and results consistently demonstrate excellence. James brought that combination to the mountain throughout the year, making him a deserving recipient of this year’s award.

About the Don Sather Award

The Don Sather Award for Excellence in Snowboarding is presented to one Team Summit snowboard athlete whose work ethic and competitive results demonstrate excellence, competitive spirit, and drive. Don and Betsy Sather owned Big Horn Materials in Silverthorne. Their daughter was among the first Summit High School athletes to pursue the school’s early-release program for snowboarding. During the late 1980s, when snowboarding was beginning to gain momentum, Don worked alongside David McBride and the school district to help snowboarding programs reach the same level of recognition and support as skiing programs.
