Freeski Updates – May 29th, 2020
We hope you are all healthy and are finishing up strong “at” school. Stay strong we’ll get through these times together and come out stronger in the end.
It has been a tough spring for all of us. Missing out on National Championships, having our ski season cut short, and canceling camps is a real bummer, but was the right thing to do. Know that your coaches all miss you. We look forward to next season and shredding together again soon.
Keep your spirits up, Team Summit is right there with you. We will resume a new normal operation as soon as the guidelines permit. As Summer progresses, we will return to a more “normal” lifestyle as soon as possible, but for now, Team Summit Freeski is remaining cautious about groups, training, fundraisers, and more.
In the meantime, goal setting, exercise, visualization, and picturing skiing is the way to stay in the game. Find ways to continue toward goals. Strength, gymnastics, trampoline, biking, skating are some great ways to continue your progress in the off-season be creative and have fun training for skiing.
On that note, Team Summit Academy athletes have been working out and hiking twice a week. Chris Hughes and the Head Coaches have been running small groups, maintaining social distances with masks. For now, they are focused on general conditioning and fieldwork. Workouts are centered on basic mobility, range of motion, core strength, and body position. They will begin Olympic Lifting once we can move into the gym.
Camps are canceled, although we will provide day training opportunities, possible on snow days at Copper( fingers crossed ) and water ramping facilities reopen. We are patiently waiting for the reopening of Steamboat, Utah Olympic Park, Woodward, SNÖBAHN, and the other venues we visit. As soon as we have a clear path for Summer operations, coaches will get the word out and we will get together in larger groups.
Please note that as Summer training opens up, families will probably need to travel and lodge together, meeting coaches at venues for day training until we are cleared for group travel and lodging.
In the meantime, Team Summit Colorado is exploring new opportunities to support our community and our Scholarship Program. If you are interested in ways to support the effort, please feel free to reach out to events@teamsummit.org and follow our Facebook page for up-to-date information. Or click here to donate today!
Landon will be heading up our Mountain Bike Program again. The program is designed to improve the riding of competitive and non-competitive athletes. Starting June 14th, the TSC Mountain Bike Program offers up to 3 days a week of coaching and clinics while still adhering to federal, state, and local guidelines. Register today as space is limited or visit our website for more information. [Register Here]
I wish you all the best health and sanity in this craziness. It is a good thing we are freeskiers and are more flexible and adaptable than most.
Thank you for all your support and we can’t wait to see you all soon!
Chris Carson
