About the David McBride Award

David McBride was an English teacher and the first district coordinator of the early-release program at Summit High School. Working alongside the founders of the Summit Race Team, David helped develop and oversee the first program of its kind, allowing students to substitute ski training for physical education credit. Within the program, coaches were CHSAA trained and certified, grades were awarded, and participating athletes were required to maintain a grade above 75% in every class—exceeding the school’s standard eligibility requirements. The David McBride Award for Outstanding Academics is presented to one Team Summit athlete who demonstrates exceptional scholastic achievement and maintains outstanding academic performance throughout the year. The award recognizes the enrolled student-athlete with the highest GPA. Congratulations to Lainey, Chase, and Mackenzie for demonstrating the commitment, discipline, and balance required to succeed in both academics and athletics.
