45 Years of Impact: The Ski Ball & Team Summit’s Mission

As Team Summit Colorado prepares for its 45th Annual Ski Ball, it’s important to reflect on what this event means — not just as a fundraiser, but as a ritual of connection, vision, and support for youth sports in our mountain communities.   The History & Significance Started by Renie Gorsuch, nearly five decades ago, the Ski Ball has been Summit County’s premier gala, turning a winter night into a beacon for community and giving.   Past events have raised over $200,000 to invest in Team Summit athletes, programs, and facilities.  Over these years, countless kids have grown in skill, confidence, and character, backed by community support and the funds raised the Annual Ski Ball. What Team Summit Stands For:

1. “Where your journey starts” Team Summit provides entry points (e.g. Intro to Team Summit) all the way through competitive and advanced programs.
2. Comprehensive development through winter sports Alpine, Freeski, Snowboard, Nordic, and more;  it’s not one track but many paths for young athletes to develop critical life skills.
3. A growth mindset Team Summit is a youth development organization empowering athletes through the competition process. Athletes are taught to learn from mistakes and celebrate personal podiums.
4. Community, not just competition Team Summit emphasizes support, access, volunteerism, and collaboration among families, coaches, and local businesses.  
5. Sustainability and opportunity through events The Ski Ball is the organization’s largest fundraiser, enabling programming, scholarships, and facility investments.
