A Dusting of Snow - A Letter from the Executive Director

Dear Team Summit Families,

As the sun came up this morning on Summit County we welcomed a dusting of snow across the peaks! The countdown to snowmaking is now under 30 days. As we begin the transition from summer to winter, the spirit of Team Summit Colorado and it’s athletes is gaining momentum.

Our programs this summer gave me confidence in our leadership to form an amazing experience for all our young athletes. Chris Hughes orchestrated one of the most successful dryland training regiments. The number of athletes who participated in our summer programs more than doubled from just a year ago.  All disciplines held successful training programs at Copper Mountain, Utah Olympic Park, Mount Hood, and Steamboat Springs. Thank you to Copper Mountain Resort and Woodward Copper for providing a fantastic training venue from June 3rd all the way through last week. In addition to on-mountain training, Landon Ulrich and the Mountain Bike coaches provided a learning experience for all involved!  Young athletes showed they would not be slowed down by doing a great job wearing face masks and social distancing.

Our community adapted to support our Scholarship Fund through the Summer FUN Raising Series. With the cancelation of all our in-person events this summer the team along with some awesome parents helped pull together a fun interactive series to raise money for the team. If you missed out on the series we will have a recorded ticket you can purchase available next week from our Events page.

As we look forward to winter, we are faced with several new and exciting opportunities. Rest assured our team is dedicated to providing training opportunities at our world-class venues. Competition schedules are being developed through the governing bodies and the resorts. The schedules are typically released in October and we will share with you as they are announced.

Fall Dryland Training will begin on September 8th for Academy Athletes.  We will be hosting four opportunities for athletes to join us in Washington Park and Summit County for Dryland Training.  Summit County dates are September 27th and October 11th. Wash Park dates are October 4th and 18th. For more information check on the program calendar(s).

Volunteer opportunities are being rolled out daily. Connect with other families and help the team in a COVID friendly manner. Our first opportunity is the Highway Clean-Up on Sunday, September 13th, between mile markers 197 and 200 on I-70.

I love this sport!
