U16 Rocky/Central Alpine Championships

So how did we do at the U16 RC Champs?

From March 7-11, Steamboat Ski Resort and Howelsen Hill hosted the U16 Rocky/Central Alpine Championships. Top 50 women and men from the division, which includes 19 states, had to qualify in order to compete at these Championships.

Team Summit was able to qualify 5 athletes and they represented themselves and their team exceptionally well. In the 10 events, they won a total of 10 medals and 6 of them were gold!

On the women’s side, Stella Buchheister crashed in the downhill after having the fastest training runs but was able to compete hard the rest of the Championships. She won Super-G, Slalom, and Alpine Combined title and placed 2nd in the Giant Slalom.

In the men’s category, Niko Leunig and Jevin Palmquist placed 1st and 2nd respectively in the Downhill. Jevin also won the Slalom title and was 2nd in the Alpine Combined. Niko placed 5th in the Alpine Combined.

As a reflection of strong results throughout the week, Stella became Women's Overall Champion, Jevin placed 2nd, and Niko was 6th in the Men’s Overall standings.

Ruthie DeMino and Seth Montgomery also competed at these Championships. They showed some strong runs and gained some valuable experiences for the future.
